I am happy to offer author visits to encourage students (and adults!) to dream big and be creative. I can provide unique programs for each audience, offering both in-person and virtual visits to schools, libraries, conferences, and private groups.

All in-person presentations can include Q&A and a book signing if desired. Any presentation (virtual or in-person) could include a reading).

Preschool through 3rd Grade

Storytime and meet an author!
Kids will learn about how a picture book gets made, including the importance of revision and following their interests. We’ll do a storytime, followed by Q&A.
30 minutes (Forts: Prek-3rd grade; Cassini: 2nd-5th grade)

What does it feel like in a fort? (SEL + Engineering)
First we will brainstorm different types of forts and our feelings in those different forts. How does the type of fort affect how we feel? After reading Forts and answering questions, we’ll pick a feeling that we want our fort to have and will design that fort using worksheets or a group brainstorming activity. Creativity is encouraged!
30 minutes–presentation and Q&A
45 minutes–includes a creative activity drawing forts and saying who would be in it with them. Please provide supplies.

Built to a purpose (Engineering)
After reading either Forts or Cassini’s Mission and Q&A, kids will work individually, in pairs, or in a group brainstorming session to design their own forts or spacecraft using worksheets. What problem do they want their fort or spacecraft to solve? What will its purpose be? How can they best design it to meet that purpose?
30 minutes
45 minutes (3rd grade and above; please provide supplies)

Pricing for School Visits

In-Person School Visits

All visits include a presentations and can include the delivery of signed books; I can provide schools with an order form, but I ask schools to work with their own local bookstores to arrange for the purchase of those books. If you don’t have a local store, let me know and I can probably find one en route where I can pick books up from. I’ll also need a quiet spot in the school to sign while I’m there so the kids aren’t waiting while I sign in front of them.

• $300 in-person, plus travel if applicable (see below).
• $550 for two visits (schools can share)
• $750 for a full day with three visits (schools can share)

Virtual School Visits

Due to my publishing contracts, recording my virtual visits is not allowed. Thank you for understanding!

• $150 per virtual 30 minutes: brief introduction, reading book, Q&A

Travel Fees

• Up to 30-minute drive: No travel fees
• 30- to 120-minute drive: $0.72/ mile (full day visit only)
• 120-minute drive or more: $0.72/mile plus lodging (full day visit only)
