I am happy to offer author visits to encourage students (and adults!) to dream big and be creative. I can provide unique programs for each audience, offering both in-person and virtual visits to schools, libraries, conferences, and private groups.

All in-person presentations include Q&A and a book signing if desired.

Preschool through 3rd Grade

Storytime and meet an author!
We’ll do a storytime followed by questions from the kids. Kids will get a fun worksheet to draw on.
30 minutes (Forts: Prek-3rd grade; Cassini: 1st-3th grade)

What does it feel like in a fort? (SEL + Engineering)
First we will brainstorm different types of forts and our feelings in those different forts. How does the type of fort affect how we feel? After reading Forts and answering questions, we’ll pick a feeling that we want our fort to have and will design that fort using worksheets or a group brainstorming activity. Creativity is encouraged!

Built to a purpose (Engineering)
After reading either Forts or Cassini’s Mission and answering questions, kids will work individually, in pairs, or in a group brainstorming session to design their own forts or spacecraft using worksheets. What problem do they want their fort or spacecraft to solve? What will its purpose be? How can they best design it to meet that purpose?

Adult Craft Talks

Tale of Two Picture Books
Picture books are an exciting, challenging, and ever in-demand medium, but breaking into traditional publishing as an author-only (not someone who also creates the artwork) can be bewildering. Do you need to find the artist yourself? Do you need an agent?? What about word count??? This presentation explores the very different journeys of my two very different picture books, from idea to publication. The audience will come away with a better understanding of the Big 5 and midsized trad PB landscape and resources.

The Art of Art Notes
Picture book writers have to balance writing the words on the page and planning for those words to interact with the images, while leaving room for the illustrator to bring their own vision to the project. Enter art notes (aka illustration notes), those comments writers leave in a manuscript to convey their vision. This interactive workshop will quickly start with the basics of how to format art notes. We’ll then move towards leveraging this tool as a way to level up your writing.

In-School Visits

All visits can include a book signing. These rates are for individual classroom visits; I do not present to larger groups of children.

• $250 $200 for 1 presentation (only available in the City of Eau Claire) (temporary discount)
• $400 for 2 presentations (only available in the Chippewa Valley)
• $550 for 3 presentations
• $700 for 4 presentations (full day visit; travel fees may apply) 

Virtual Visits

Due to my publishing contracts, recording my virtual visits is not allowed. Thank you for understanding!

• $100 per virtual 30 minutes: brief introduction, reading book, Q&A

• Up to 60-minute drive: No travel fees
• 60- to 120-minute drive: $0.65/ mile (full day visit only)
• 120-minute drive or more: $0.65/mile plus lodging (full day visit only)
